“God is my strength and power: and he maketh my way perfect”

As I lay in my bed early this morning listening to the bird’s chirp, I was thinking about who I am. I realized that the more I think about myself as God’s image and likeness, the refection of his being, the better my life becomes. I am stronger, happier, and more alive than I have ever been. If I keep my thinking in the spiritual realm, even though I walk in the flesh, it makes my experience here so much better. I think that’s what Jesus did. He always saw things the way God created them, without material limitations, and that allowed him to correct the misconceptions of the people around him. It helped them see God’s creation, and that view of creation turned water into wine, fed the multitudes with a few loaves and fishes, allowed him to walk on water, heal the sick and raise the dead. He broke all the laws of the physical universe.

“We look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.”  II Corinthians 4:18

If I mentally reverse every negative experience I have and turn it into what God created me to be, then my experience changed. A few years ago, I seemed to have had an experience that sapped me of all my strength and vitality, and life was on a downhill run. As I was doing my metaphysical work, I realized I needed to change my view of who I am. Once again I was seeing myself as a weak mortal body rather than a beautiful, strong image of God. I started thinking about strength in a different way. It had nothing to do with my physical muscles, and more to do with the strength of my thought.

Following is an example of how I do my metaphysical work. Understanding the words we use is an important part of it. I hope you find it helpful.

I looked at the definition of Strength in the dictionary. I frequently look up words I think I know the meaning of, only to find there is more to them than I originally thought. I take the definition and change all the physical attributes to mental ideas. I exchange things for thoughts.  Once I have done this, I formulate a prayer based on what I have found.

I looked up Strength and found that it is a state of being mentally strong and having the capacity of mental endurance. God gives us the strength to resist negative mental force. That would be anything that would try to convince us we are less than His image. Strength is a logical, moral force. Strength is the power to move from victory to victory, never to failure.

A synonym of strength is power, so I moved on and looked up power, and found it means we can exert enough mental or spiritual effort to accomplish whatever we need to do to make our life better.  It is the mental or spiritual ability to think and act right. God gives us that power. Many holding the same thought in mind are a powerful force for change. I was starting to see that I could allow God to be the motivating force behind my thoughts, that I was here to magnify his being, and as his child, I reflect his very essence. Strength gives me the power to reject the wrong thoughts for the right thoughts.

Under the definition of Power is the word “scope,” so I looked it up. The scope is our range, intention or opportunity for unhampered thought and activity. God’s range is unlimited, infinite.

Power as a verb tells me that our thoughts give force to our actions. God motivates us with His still small voice, to do all that is right and good. We always have everything we need, when we need it, to accomplish what is before us.

Jesus said in the Lord’s Prayer, “For thine in the kingdom, and the POWER, and the Glory forever.” That power is ours by reflection.

Are you getting the idea? You start with one word, and it leads you to another word and so on. It actually can be a lot of fun. At one time I was picking a word each week doing this. It’s amazing where it leads you and how exciting it can be. Remember to exchange words in the definition that describe the physical universe for words that describe the spiritual universe, things unseen. It enlightens the spiritual meaning.

Now that I’ve done my research and metaphysical work, based on what I had just learned about, Strength, Power, and Scope, I could relate it to my experience here. Now that I understood what strength is, I could apply it to my next step, literally. I started walking and joined Curves a ladies exercise place, and I found I had the strength to do what I needed to do, and I built on that. I hadn’t walked or exercised in over thirty-five years, and I was enjoying it. It was the right idea, as I was sitting too much at my computer, reading and watching TV. I needed to balance my inactivity with activity. I also need to balance my thought and action. Now it doesn’t do me any good to think of good things to do if I don’t act on those thoughts. Life is a balancing act. J We are spiritual beings trying to balance our existence with the physical universe.

As I mentioned in the beginning about my being sapped of my strength etc., I have to say that as long as I wallowed in the condition, it continued. Once I started to really do my metaphysical work, it quickly turned around. In a short time, I was better than I’d been in many years. How and what we think about, truly has an effect on our experience. So, think the good thoughts and act on them. God bless you all.
