What was Jesus’ prediction?

Gloomy predictions continue about the pandemic, but do we need to fear them? Predictions are only a best guess based on statistics from the past; they are not cast in stone. There are too many variables to place your confidence in them. Besides complying with all the guidelines set down to keep the virus under control, there are other things we can do. We can pray and consider the predictions that Jesus made.

“He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also:” and “These signs shall follow them that believe.”  Einstein once said, “No problem can’t be solved from the same level of consciousness that created it.” That means we need to elevate our consciousness to a level above the material creation to the spiritual. We need to think and see from God’s point of view.

“And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good.” Gen. 1:31. Do not let the predictions of today cloud your view so you cannot see God’s creation. If we do not see this goodness in our experience, then this is an opportunity to dig deeper and advance our spiritual growth.

I had an opportunity fifteen years ago to dig deeper. Nothing bad was going on, but I needed to make a decision. I was living in Michigan, and my only child, a daughter, had moved to Missouri to go to school. When she graduated from college, she fell in love, got married, and decided to stay in the St. Louis area. I would fly to Missouri every few months to spend time with her. After a while, I decided that I would need to move to Missouri if I want to have any quality time with her.

I had been working at the same company for seventeen years, and I loved my job. When I mentioned it to some co-workers and friends, I got all kinds of negative predictions. I was 62, and they predicted I would never find new employment, and the housing market was terrible, and it would take forever to sell our house. My mother and I shared a home since my stepfather passed, and she would move with me.

I had to pray about this. I wanted to make sure it was a right idea that this was a move that God approved. Following is something I found written by Robert C. Charlton, Jr., and I prayed with these ideas.

“Place me Lord, where I belong, Wherever I may serve You best; Wherever I may sing Your song Is where I’ll find my happiness. Guide me with Your still small voice When I’m unsure-to go or stay. The child will trust the Father’s choice And take the path that tends His way.”

After praying about this a while, I knew that if I listen for God’s guidance, He will make sure I am in my right place. I was moving out of love for my daughter, and only joy could follow.

I had little savings at the time. I was a single mother and was unable to start saving for retirement until my daughter graduated from College. I knew it would take some time to find a new job, so I saved up enough money to live on for three months. I knew this would last me; I had no fear.

“In the scientific relation of God to man, we find that whatever blesses one blesses all, as Jesus showed with the loaves and the fishes, — Spirit, not matter, being the source of supply.” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy, p. 206:15)

I told my employer I was moving, and though they were sad to see me go, they understood my desire to be near my daughter. I said it might take a while and would let them know when the house sold so they could start looking for someone to replace me.

We readied the house for sale, and three days after it went on the market, it sold to the first people who looked at it. WOW! General Motors were transferring them from out of state, and GM was taking care of the move, they only needed to pick a house. We got the asking price, and everything went smoothly. I knew then this was a right idea, and this was God’s way of letting me know. The first negative prediction put down.

I let them know at work, and everyone was in shock that it happened so fast. We started packing and preparing for the move. The movers told us it would take a week to 10 days before our furniture would be delivered. They had several loads on the van. We planned to rent for the first year until we knew the area better before we started looking for a house. My daughter had an apartment rented and set up when we got there. She had set up a small table and a couple of chairs, and two air mattresses so we could stay there until the movers came. Well, they showed up the same day we did. The driver had relatives in St. Louis and decided to drop off our stuff first; another prediction put down.

Now for job hunting. At the end of three months, I had three job offers at the same time. They were checking my last job references, which caused a reaction from my previous employer. I got a call from the VP who asked if I would consider working for them remotely full time from Missouri. Of course, I would. I could not have been happier. Another prediction put down. Fifteen years ago, who could have predicted that would happen. 😊 Today many people are working remotely from home.

After moving 47 times in my life, I could have never predicted that move 48 would be the best move of my life, and the longest I have stayed in one place. So much good has come to me here. If I had stayed in Michigan, I doubt very much that I would be blogging about God at this point in my life. The opportunity came up to take a spiritual class, which was so enlightening. I learned so much about God. And I have grown so much in my spiritual understanding, but I still have much to learn.

“Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need. It is not well to imagine that Jesus demonstrated the divine power to heal only for a select number or for a limited period of time, since to all mankind and in every hour, divine Love supplies all good.” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy, p. 494:10)
