Well, here it is another two weeks almost gone, and I am just starting my blog. I have been thinking, with everything that is going on in our world today, it is an excellent time to blog about identity. Who are we?
I was chatting with a neighbor the other day about our adult children. I told her that my daughter never worried or cared about what other people thought of her. I admired that, as an abused child, I had all sorts of hang-ups. One being, I did, in the past, care what others thought about me. The way I see her, Darchele does not see herself as a woman but as an individual. She does not identify herself by her physical characteristics, her age, or by what she wears. She does her own thing, and I love that.
My neighbor mentioned that her daughter was at the doctor’s the other day and demonstrated a movement she was having trouble doing. His response was, “a woman your age should not be doing that anyway.” How awful. It was something she usually did. He said she must have pulled something. My point is that many use age as an excuse; she was not, but he planted a seed. I have a problem with people planting negative seeds.
All these race and law enforcement issues that are going on are so sad. My heart breaks for everyone involved. This is all about identity. How we as people identify ourselves. Well, here I go; 😊 “The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:” (Romans 8:16). But obviously, not everyone is seeing themselves that way. As God’s children, we have no color, no place of origin, we are his image and likeness, His idea. He thunk us up. 😊 He did not create varying skin tones; those are human concepts. God sees who we are as His idea, not our physical characteristics.
“. . . all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.” (Matthew 7:12)
If everyone could see their true identity, and follow the golden rule, we would not be having all these problems. I am pleased that efforts are being taken to correct what is happening to prevent it from coming up repeatedly. We have come a long way, but there is a way to go yet. We do not want to become a part of the problem, so we must keep our thought straight; it will protect us from being hurt in the fallout. As Jesus said, cast your net on the right side. That is the side of God.
I do not ruminate over the goings-on, it does not help. No matter what the physical evidence is, I keep my thought-on God’s point of view. He does not see a struggling human race but His idea living in harmony. Following that point of view helps to change the evidence.
Think about it. If we are God’s idea, we must be incredibly special, we have a divine identity, which includes all right ideas. As ideas, we are indestructible and harmonious, we can never be in conflict with another idea. Divine Mind, God’s ideas work together and cooperate. A divine idea is unlimited, but a human concept is limited.
I do not want to get too metaphysical here, or I might lose you. It took me a long time to realize who I am as God’s child. I had to set aside everything I learned growing up, my beliefs about my physical identity, and my personality. That was not easy. To make changes in my life, I had to see everything from God’s point of view. I am an infinite idea, but the human mind sees me materially. I appear to be living in this material world, so I need to take care of my human thought, this material body. And at the same time, keep foremost in my thought who I am as God’s idea. That is what makes changes in my life. And believe me, I have had many. Who I am now is a far cry from who I was thirty-five years ago.
Material things change, but eternal things are forever, harmonious, and perfect. I think I have mentioned before the fact that God and Man co-exist and are dependent on each other for that existence. Without his image or idea, God would not be God, and man without God, his creator, would not exist. They are dependent on one another for their very existence. God and man is one.
Go out there and try to keep in mind that you are God’s IDEA, uncontaminated, and unfettered by this material existence. We are not here to become a better human but to demonstrate our divine identity. I am a divine Idea, and so are you.
“All that really exists is the divine Mind and its idea, and in this Mind the entire being is found harmonious and eternal.” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy, p. 151:26–28)
“… Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.” (Luke 10:27)
