The big butterfly picture in my previous blog got me to thinking about the caterpillar and the butterfly. What an amazing process. I did some research, so I was sure I understood the process. It is remarkably interesting.
This blog will be a bit of an extension of my last blog. “Identify yourself as God’s Idea.”
This metamorphosis starts with the butterfly. The butterfly carefully picks a place to lay her eggs. This is important because when the egg hatches, the caterpillar’s only purpose in life is to eat and grow through a series of molts where it sheds its skin as he grows. It has no idea it is a beautiful butterfly. When it has completed its growth, it hangs upside down and spins a cocoon or chrysalis. This cocoon is a protective casing for the next step, which is the stage between the caterpillar and the butterfly.
Now the real work begins. Within the caterpillar, there are what is called ‘imaginal discs.’ One for each attribute of the butterfly. These imaginal discs remain dormant throughout the caterpillar’s life—eyes, wings, legs, etc. Next, the caterpillar digests itself, dissolves all the tissue but not the imaginal discs. They survive this process—this ‘protein-rich soup’ fuels the rapid cell division required to transform the caterpillar into a butterfly.
It is important not to disturb this process, or the butterfly may not survive. Once a man saw a butterfly struggling to get out of the cocoon and thought he would help. He ran his thumbnail down the cocoon to help it open. The butterfly did not survive. The process of emerging from the cocoon builds the strength it needs to fly away.
Another thing to think about is that the butterfly and the caterpillar do not communicate in any way. They are on two different levels of consciousness. I will bring this up again later.
Think of the caterpillar as us. We are the immature form of the butterfly. While in the caterpillar stage of our life, we grow and learn there is more to life than eating. Like myself, many of us realize we need to make some changes in our life, and we go into a stage of transformation. While there, we are protected by a chrysalis, God. As we grow stronger, we emerge from an immature understanding of who we are, to a mature understanding.
Jesus said: “It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.” (John 6:63)
Think of the butterfly as a spiritual idea. God’s idea, free to soar through God’s creation unfetter by any material circumstances. The caterpillar did not know it was always a beautiful butterfly (spiritual idea.) Like us, we have always been a spiritual idea, and our human circumstances can never change that.
We are God’s idea like I said in my previous blog, He thunk us up. 😊 An idea is mental, it is not an object, so it is not subject to time or space. It cannot be broken or accosted. A spiritual idea is flawless. That is what God created. We are His perfect idea.
I mention above that the butterfly and the caterpillar do not communicate because they are on two different levels of consciousness, making me think of what happens when we pass on from this experience. Since we are a divine idea, we are eternal and never die. So, when we, the caterpillar, pass from this experience, we move on to the next adventure, but we cannot communicate with those left behind as we are now on two different levels of consciousness.
When the caterpillar ceased to exist in one level of consciousness, the butterfly, the spiritual idea, flies on untouched by the caterpillar’s experience, as our loved ones do when they leave us. Wish them well and send them off to their new adventure with all your love. They are a divine idea the same as you and me. The butterfly does not know the experiences of the caterpillar; he has always been a butterfly.
“For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.” (Galatians 6:8)
When we change our human concept and align it with God’s idea, then we start to express the divine idea here on earth for all to see. We live in God’s creation, but we must know it and act like it before seeing and experiencing it in the here and now. So, let us live in God’s creation and soar like a butterfly. 😊
