Let Christ be your motive for a better life.

I had an issue to deal with that prompted me to investigate the word “move” and all the words that correspond to it. There are many synonyms and just as many antonyms.  In my research, I find it is sometimes just as important to understand the opposite of what you are investigating.

The quote that got me started was, “All that God imparts moves in accord with Him, reflecting goodness and power.” I was having a problem that had to do with the movement of something. I have learned that everything in God’s creation is a divine idea. God thought up this whole universe that includes us, and every organ in the human body is a complete representation of God, a compound, divine idea. We are a spiritual idea, not a physical body. Therefore, our body functions in accord with God, good, and moves at God’s impulsion, freely, surely, and uninterruptedly.

When this does not seem to be what is happening in my experience, then it is time for me to take steps back to God and remind myself who I am. That is what I am doing. Sometimes I get lazy and just put up with what is going on and do not take the right action required to set things right. When I take human action, the issue seems to escalate. I cannot just sit there and wrestle with my flawed mortal concepts of life. If I want to restore harmony to my life, I need to take divine action to set it right.

Jesus said, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.” (John 5:19) In other words, he moved in accord with God, took divine action, and always credited God for his good works. I was learning to let Christ’s teachings be the motive behind my actions. Think about it, Jesus challenged all material laws of physics. He lived only by divine law.

“Jesus never asked if disease were acute or chronic, and he never recommended attention to laws of health, never gave drugs, never prayed to know if God were willing that a man should live. He understood man, whose Life is God, to be immortal, and knew that man has not two lives, one to be destroyed and the other to be made indestructible.” (S & H 369:16) I was finding that I had only one life, and it is spiritual. When I saw inharmony, I needed to look again. My job is to look past all the mistaken mortal beliefs about who I am, to see God’s idea, spiritual man. He is right here, and I needed to see him from God’s point of view, which corrected any mistaken beliefs I was having.

Reasoning along these lines the lack of proper movement I was experiencing was restored to normal, as I understood that movement is not a function of the material body; it is divine action.  One day that problem tried to show itself again, and I said right out loud, “NO, you are a lie about who I am, trying to distract me from knowing the truth. I am a divine idea and move in accord with God, period.”  When I emphatically made that statement, harmonious action was restored and the problem has never returned.

Consider this; the earth moves on its axis, never halts, goes too fast or too slow, that which God moves, and man does not interfere with, is always perfect and harmonious.

These are challenging concepts, but a little effort to understand while holding nothing more than the allness of God in our thought does wonders.

Following are some quotes and my thoughts on them.

“Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?” (Matthew 6:25)   Of course, we need to take nutrition and cloth ourselves, but it should take second place after God. In the Bible, the talk of breaking bread is another term for sharing the divine word. “And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart,” (Acts 2:46)

“For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of the which is to come.” I Tim. 4:8.   I found that we need to balance activity with inactivity, so normal exercise is necessary, but we should not obsess over it.

“For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. … Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord: … We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.” (II Cor 5:1,6,8) The house referred to here is our body. He is trying to tell us that our spiritual growth is more important than our concerns about our bodies. Our body will take care of itself when we are “present with the Lord.” When we get it right, our mortal body will vanish, and in its place will be our spiritual body. Others may not see the difference, but we will know the difference.

Quotes like these are all through the Bible and confirm what I believe to be true, man is not material, he is spiritual, so I am learning how “to be present with the Lord,” “for in Him we live and move and have our being.”

“For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;” (Titus 2:11,12)

We are all spiritual ideas, and when we let the teachings of Jesus be the motive behind all our thought, and actions, everything in our current experience here on earth will move in accord with God.

Bless you all…Michele!
