Something most of us have always known is that a house is a physical location. But, I only found out about Home since I started my spiritual studies. In Acts, it is written, that we live and move and have our being in God, so if we live in God, our Home is Spirit. You must have heard that home is where the heart is. Well, that sounds good to me. 😊
“Home is the dearest spot on earth, and it should be the centre, though not the boundary, of the affections.” S & H. I took this to mean that we should let those loving, caring thoughts and actions ripple out into the world and not hold them for just those in our house. We need to let our light shine for all to see.
I have moved 48 times, can you believe that, and changed jobs many times. Because of the child abuse, I had a misconception of who I was. I feared if people got to know me, they would see through the mask I wore to this awful, worthless person I really was. As I started to redefine who I was as a child of God, I had to redefine what home was. I thought it was just a place to keep my junk. 😊
“Pilgrim on earth, thy home is heaven; stranger, thou art the guest of God.” S & H 254:31. Heaven is defined in S & H as: “Harmony; the reign of Spirit; government by divine Principle; spirituality; bliss; the atmosphere of Soul.” Our experience here on earth should gradually lead us home to Love. We know we are home when our life experience is harmonious, and we are living by God’s laws that are found throughout the Bible.
I love this quote, “Pure humanity, friendship, home, the interchange of love, bring to earth a foretaste of heaven.” (Miscellaneous Writings 1883–1896, by Mary Baker Eddy)
The 23rd Psalm is all about our journey Home. It is not always easy, but a journey worth taking. I am going to walk through each line relating what it means to me. These ideas come from an abundance of reading I have done over the years, so they are not original ideas, but in my words.
A Psalm of David. “The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.”
God is my Shepherd; as His reflection, I always have everything I need, at all times and in all ways. I shall not want for intelligence, wisdom, or spiritual understanding. I have all the strength and energy I need today. I am satisfied and at peace. All the goodness of God is mine to see and express. He maintains my identity whole and complete. I continue to grow in my understanding according to God’s plan.
“He maketh me to lie down in green pastures:“
God provides and maintains my peace. I rest in the arms of Love. He reveals that I reflect Spirit, not matter. He protects me from illusions, dreams, and nightmares. He sustains me in the peace of green pastures.
“he leadeth me beside the still waters.”
God gives me rest and stills the instability of human life. He always leads me on an honest and truthful path and keeps me calm, lifts me beyond pain, sorrow, or regrets. He maintains my stillness with Love, my receptivity to good, and my ability to obey His still small voice. I am steadfast in God’s law of love. I am in Harmony with Him.
“He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.“
Each day, as God’s expression, I am refreshed, renewed, regenerated. God fills my days with new, inspiring, and fulfilling ideas that are strong, firm, and unshakable. I walk with God in paths of righteousness, willing and able to fulfill His plan.
“Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.“
God shines a light through the shadow of darkness and keeps me untouched by evil. Darkness is nothing but a shadow without the substance of Spirit or reality. He removes my fears and doubts. I am comforted by the rod, which assures me of God’s goodness, even as it reveals my temptations and fears. Jesus showed me how to walk through the valley, and God is with me the entire journey; he never leaves my side.
“Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.“
God provides me with spiritual sustenance and strength and fills me with inspiration and gentleness, which shows me that there is no enemy. Love prevails. The law of God supports and maintains my cup, which overflows with gratitude.
“Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.”
God is my Home. I live and move and have my being in God where there is nothing but goodness and mercy. His arms encircle beneath, around, and above, I am protected and loved as His child. I am a lamb, and He is my loving shepherd and my eternal Home.
I know that the preceding statements seem like a fairy tale, but it is what we were created to have, a peaceful home in God. I have learned that the more I keep these ideas in my thought, the more I bring them out in my life experience. The more I learned, the better and better my life became. My past faded into oblivion and ceased to exist.
I am now at Home in God’s care, but there are times that I find myself on the outside looking in, and I need to find the key to open the door and reenter the kingdom of Heaven, God’s Home. I know this is true, I believe it, and I live it based on my current understanding, and I know I have much more to learn.
You can find your way home too. Open your heart and believe; “And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible.” (Mark 10:27)
Have a good day, Michele
