What would Jesus do?

Since the day after tomorrow is Christmas, everyone will be talking about the birth of Jesus. I’m going to switch it up a bit. I thought it was a good time to write about Jesus and how learning about Jesus and following his teachings changed my life. It taught me to stop reacting to negative suggestions and live a peaceful and harmonious life. This morning I was listening to Christmas music on PLIR when a deep emotion of love swelled up in me and made me want to embrace the whole world in this beautiful feeling. I felt the joy of peace and the happiness that God created within us. It is here for all of us to experience. This is what Jesus came to share with us. Joy to the World

What would Jesus do if he were faced with a serious disease? Recently I have been doing a lot of thinking about this. I did not know much about Jesus when I started my spiritual studies. Oh, I knew it was written that he came from a virgin birth and was the son of God, but I had zero understanding of what any of that meant or how it applied to my life. But, after more than thirty years of research, I feel I have gained some understanding. 😊

The Bible teaches that he is a rabbi, teacher, messiah, saviour, way-shower, and much more. He embodied his spiritual self, the Christ, the reflection of God. He brought God to everything he did and said. He never took personal credit, he said, “not my will but thine be done.” He came to reconcile man to God. Many did not understand his teaching, and after three years, they crucified him thinking that would end his teaching. But all they did was enhance and prove what he was teaching. Since then, it has been passed down from generation to generation for over two thousand years.

Jesus was a healer; he healed family problems, mental illness, financial needs, physical issues of all sorts and raised the dead. But, not once did he name the malady or say, you poor thing you are sick, let me heal you, because: “Jesus beheld in Science the perfect man, who appeared to him where sinning mortal man appears to mortals. In this perfect man the Saviour saw God’s own likeness, and this correct view of man healed the sick. Thus Jesus taught that the kingdom of God is intact, universal, and that man is pure and holy.” From Science and Health.

Jesus saw everything from God’s point of view; he did not see a sinning or sick mortal man. This does not mean he was ignorant of the world’s problems; he just put them in their place. “…Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.” (Luke 4:8)

He was showing us what would happen if we stopped affirming the negative. I am not naïve; I know what is going on, but that does not mean I need to get embroiled in all the minutia. I need to see negative human and material circumstances as an imposition on my thought. I feel it is important to create a mental atmosphere that supports only good. The more that is done, the less harmful effects there will be.

Jesus said, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.” (John 14:12) He stated that anyone can do what he does because God is behind the works, and we can petition God’s help. What Jesus taught was not for just a select few disciples but the whole world, as he said, “He that believeth on me,” Jesus knew without a doubt that God is reliable and a force for Good.

I need to keep up with the news but respond according to Jesus’ teachings and act according to what inspires reasonable action rather than fear-based reactions.

“We must go and do likewise, else we are not improving the great blessings which our Master worked and suffered to bestow upon us.” From Science and Health.

If I started to show unpleasant symptoms, and fear was my first reaction, my second would be to act according to what I was learning about Jesus to overcome that fear. I believe what Jesus taught and would follow his example. I am God’s spiritual image and likeness, pure and perfect, regardless of what my material body is telling me. Holding to this Truth of who I am will destroy the material symptoms. Now I would put a little more prayer into it than that, but that is a general idea.

I try to put down any fearful and false beliefs about disease, admitting only into consciousness healthy thoughts coming from Christ. I claim my identity as God’s perfect child, protected from the false claim that I could ever be separated from my divine source, God. “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. …There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.” (Psalms 91:1, 10, 11)

I will resist getting involved in negative conversations about sin, disease, and death and do what Jesus would do. This quote is worth repeating. “Jesus beheld in Science the perfect man, who appeared to him where sinning mortal man appears to mortals. In this perfect man the Saviour saw God’s own likeness, and this correct view of man healed the sick. Thus Jesus taught that the kingdom of God is intact, universal, and that man is pure and holy.” From Science and Health.

Many in the world don’t believe the way I do, but they deserve my praise. All the nurses and doctors out there that are fighting to save those afflicted need our prayerful support. They are courageous and selfless. They are doing what they know how to do best. So, pray to see them as God created them, safe in God’s care. The more that do this, the better the results. Let us put down all these awful diseases now. That’s what Jesus would Do.

So go out there and see God’s perfect creation, that’s what Jesus was born to do, and the results were amazing.
