“And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.” Genesis 1: 4

Light has a lot of definitions. The ones that apply here have to do with spiritual enlightenment. Darkness is the absence of light, the absence of understanding, and God sent Jesus to lead us out of the darkness, to show us who God created us to be.

As I was learning about a loving God, I began to see that it didn’t make sense to me that He would create something and then allow it to suffer. He brought the LIGHT. So why was it I got so caught up in all the turmoil that was going on in my life? Because I didn’t know any different and was just reacting to things as they came up. I was caught up in the idea that I needed to protect myself. I hadn’t yet been enlightened and didn’t know that God would protect me. But I did eventually see the light, and understand that He was there for me, and I was a part of His creation of light.

I love this quote, “Man is not God, but like a ray of light which comes from the sun, man, the outcome of God, reflects God.” (Science and Health 250:12)

I Love the story of Daniel in the Lion’s Den. He was a good, enlightened person, but that didn’t prevent him from being cast into the lion’s den, but it did shut the mouth of the lions. He was not disturbed because he knew his inseparable relationship to God would protect him.

“The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?” (Psalms 27:1)

Finding the light does not mean that I will not experience challenges in my life. The negative experiences I face are just distractions. They are trying to make me believe that I can be separated from God, that HE won’t be there for me. When I am disturbed by them, it lets in the darkness. I then remind myself; darkness is the absence of understanding, understanding what? The truth of who I am. That is when I need to put into action some of the tools God equipped me with, instincts and intuition. I also need to listen for the still small voice. These things will lead me to the understanding of what will stop the disturbance in my thought and let in the Light, thus correcting any unwanted circumstances, like closing the mouths of the lions.

When we are in a dimly lit, dark room, it may appear to be very nice, clean and orderly and decorated with nice things, but when the light comes on, that is when you see it for what it really is.  The walls need paint, there were cobwebs all over, the furniture is shabby and worn, and it is anything but clean and orderly.

The previous analogy helped me to understand this quote from, Isaiah 45:7, “I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the Lord do all these things.”

I had to think hard about all this. I did not think a good God would create anything other than good, and He doesn’t. He brings the light, the understanding of who I am as His beloved child. He doesn’t create the darkness, but the light allows us to see the darkness for what it is, a lie about His creation and that understanding obliterates the darkness. With the light we see who we are. God makes peace, and again that brings the understanding that evil is not a part of His creation, and it is destroyed.  Peace has always been a part of my experience but, it is up to me to find it. He brings the light for all of us, for me. He wants us to have Peace. My blogs/podcasts show the lessons I’ve learned along the way and how the understanding of my relationship with God brought me peace.

It was not until I started to emerge from the darkness and enter the light that I realized how much work I had to do to clean out my mental closet. There were times when I thought it would be easier to just crawl back in the darkness, but I didn’t.

When I was a child living with the abuse, I managed to find some peace amid the chaos. I would hide in my closet until I felt calm and safe and peaceful. When I was at my grandparent’s farm, I would go down the lane, behind the barn, and sing to the cows. They liked that and would come over and stand there and watch me when I sang. This is where I found peace as a child, but as an adult, it is not a place, but a state of mind where I find peace.

The material world is full of chaos, and I can’t ignore it. But I also know that God will not leave me in a bad place. God does not step in and fix things for me, but He will give me nudges along the way if I am listening for his guidance, and I hear “the still small voice.”

With God as my guide, I conquer discord in my thought, and overcome fear, anxiety and anything standing in the way of expressing God’s qualities.  I found that when the time is right the light will come and right the wrongs and bring peace. He has already created perfection, and he is waiting for me to see the light and correct my course. Then I will see His creation here and now, where it has always been.

Everything starts with one person, and it ripples out from there. If I start, will you get on a ripple and start another one and help me spread world peace? Each one of us makes a difference. Every little bit each individual does to find peace in their own life is a step towards saving the world, so let your LIGHT shine, the world needs you.

Jesus said, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” Matt. 5: 16
