I’ve been thinking a lot about my spirituality these last several weeks and thought I’d share what I’ve been thinking about and the conclusions I’ve come to.

Our spirituality does not come through our five physical senses, so how do we recognize it? It has to do with this saying in Hebrews 11:1, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” So how do we recognize it if we can’t see it? It is manifest in our experience for us to see, once we know and understand what it is.

I think we all know that God is Spirit, but we have a hard time seeing ourselves as spiritual. We have been programmed from birth to see ourselves only one way, material, but there is so much more to who we are. Think about a hologram, it looks like a human, but it has a sensationless body. That is the spiritual body, the likeness of God. The hologram is spiritual and perfect, programmed by God and there can be no imperfection in perfection. It is when we try to alter that programing with our material beliefs that we have problems.

The body is a mental concept, and when it comes to us through the human mind it is material, and when it comes to us through the spiritual mind it expresses the qualities of God, the evidence of things not seen. We can’t see God, but we can see the evidence of Him working in our lives.

This evidence only comes from the spiritual mind when we know and understand that we are spiritual. Ok, how do we reach that point? How do we know? This is how I finally understood what knowing was and knowing is the key. Not just the human knowing, like one plus one, equals two, but we need to understand the principles of mathematics, which is what makes it true and is the only way to accomplish higher math.

This is what happened to me. I took a logic class, which I almost dropped out of before it even started because the book looked Greek to me, and I thought I’d never be able to grasp this thing called Logic. But a friend talked me into staying with it, and I’m glad she did.

One homework assignment consisted of 165 sentences we needed to have various answers to. These sentences were all in symbols, not words. My typewriter doesn’t even have most of the logic characters. Well, I looked at them and my eyes crossed. Holy cow, I don’t even know where to begin.

I sat down at the table and started going through my textbook, the answers had to be there. More than two hours later this is what happened. It was like someone turned on the lights, it was an OH WOW moment. That knowing hit me like a bomb, I suddenly understood the whole thing. The next 164 sentences I finished in no time at all, and I was ready for class the next day and got 100% correct. WOW! That was a close one, but that set me up for the rest of the class. To my surprise, I aced that class, and to think I was going to drop it.

Ok, now to relate that to discovering my spirituality. It comes in wordless messages and feelings rather than language, little flashes of knowing, like that night when I grasped the logic, I just suddenly knew and understood.  But it didn’t happen until I did the preliminary work required. I had to set up my thought so the answers would be revealed to me. I had to calm down and open my mind to all possibilities.

Growing in spiritual understanding is like a journey, rather than a single inspired moment, although those do happen. Like in math we need to understand the principles underlying things before we can go up higher. When I think things are not happening fast enough remembering this helps me. One step at a time gets me there. As I study to learn more about God and my relation to Him, I get lots of these little flashes. At first, it puzzled me because I couldn’t put words to them but learning that sometimes they come as feelings rather than words helped me to see that is part of the growing process. It’s like putting pieces of a puzzle together. When I get enough of them, I will see the whole picture, then the words will come. Learning this really helped me feel better about all the times when I felt like I was getting nowhere.

Back to our body, this is where we see our spirituality, in our spiritual body. If God is all in all, infinite, no beginning no end, that means there is nothing outside of him anywhere, He is all, like the very air we breathe, as stated in Acts 17:28 where we live and move and have our being IN God, so we are not material. I know, I know, then what is this thing we seem to be hauling around with us. 😊 That’s our misconceptions of who we are.  That is what we are trying to know and understand our way out of.

To do that we need to know, and understand who we are as God’s child, His idea, His image and likeness, His reflection. Those are very important words. That’s what all my blogs/podcasts are about, my journey to understanding who I am as God’s child. Our spiritual body is right there where that other thing seems to be. We only need to see it correctly and that will bring God’s creation into view. It doesn’t just happen, bam, all at once, it’s little flashes at a time. Mrs. Eddy writes to, “Emerge gently from matter into Spirit. Think not to thwart the spiritual ultimate of all things, but come naturally into Spirit through better health and morals and as the result of spiritual growth.” S&H

As God’s idea, I am, An image in Mind; the immediate object of understanding. That’s from the Webster dictionary.  WOW, that tells me nothing can prevent me from knowing the truth of who I am, it is my God-given right as His idea. I don’t need to wait for it, it is immediate, I already have the understanding, because I reflect God and all that He is. His idea is the manifestation of Life, Truth, Love, Mind, Soul, Spirit, all qualities of God, and are manifest in our spiritual body here and now. We just need to know it.

As a result of my journey to discover my spirituality my life has been revitalized. I have more confidence and that allows me to communicate with others more easily, I don’t worry over things like I used to. I am much happier, I feel lighter. I am living a better, more productive life. I love this quote, “When men are cast down, then thou shalt say, There is lifting up; and he shall save the humble person. He shall deliver the island of the innocent: and it is delivered by the pureness of Thine hands.” Job 22:29, 30. I am God’s innocent child, and so are you, and His pure hands lift us up, to a clear understanding of our spirituality.  

Discovering our spirituality, we know and understand that God is our origin, and we as His spiritual Idea express nothing but His qualities.
