Ye are the light of the world.” Matt. 5:14

Who is God’s child? Many of you who have been raised in traditional Christian beliefs may not see Christ Jesus the same way I do, but consider what I write and think about it. If you cannot reconcile your thought to these ideas, then set them aside for now; they might mean more to you after you have time to ponder them.

Following are the definitions of Jesus and Christ from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy. Following them, I will share what they mean to me.

JESUS. The highest human corporeal concept of the divine idea, rebuking and destroying error and bringing to light man’s immortality. CHRIST. The divine manifestation of God, which comes to the flesh to destroy incarnate error.

God’s creation is complete. Nothing can be added to it or taken from it. It is like a piece of paper folded hundreds of times and is slowly unfolding in our experience. The complete understanding of God does not come instantly like in the Big Bang, 😊 it unfolds in our consciousness. When an idea hits your understanding, that is what I call a WOW moment. I am sure you have all had an “Oh WOW!” moment, maybe many of them. That is what has been happening to me for more than thirty-five years now, and I am looking forward to many more.

Let me start by defining what personification, personify, and personified mean. These words are essential to what I am writing about. Briefly, it means to attribute a personal nature or human characteristic to something non-human. A quality or concept represented or embodied in Human form. Jesus, the human, personified the Christ, the spiritual idea of God.

Jesus was the human, and Christ is his divine nature. When you read the New Testament, you see Jesus referred to as Jesus, Christ, Jesus Christ, and Christ Jesus. These all refer to different perspectives of what the writer is trying to express.

To understand Jesus, we need to understand God’s spiritual creation in the first chapter of Genesis. I understand chapter one as the spiritual creation. Starting with the third verse of the second chapter is the material creation, our misconception of who we are. Jesus taught us how to resolve the miseries of the material creation and live in the spiritual creation; how to live the way God intended us to live, to have peaceful and harmonious lives.

Jesus personified the Christ in all his ways and brought to us the Divine idea, the man of God’s creation. God did not get millions of ideas in physical form, but one idea, and that idea is the Christ. God and His idea, Christ, is one. When we embody the Christ idea in our experience, we express God and humanly reveal His image and likeness for all to see, as he did. Doing this makes it easier for us to love our neighbor as ourselves.

After seventeen years of abuse, I acted out of a misconception of who I was, and I was miserable. I forgave my father for those years of abuse when I had a WOW moment and realized that even though evil was trying to hide the real man of God’s creation, it was still there. God’s creation cannot be diminished in any way. It is the same today, yesterday, and forever. Pure and perfect, if we do not see it that way, we are not seeing it from God’s point of view. My father was acting out of his misconception of who he was. Anyone who is doing that is lost, and we need to remember what Jesus said from the cross, “Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do.” Luke 23:34

“Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doeth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like Him; for we shall see him as he is.” I John 3:2

“Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to-day and forever.” Heb.13:8 We know that the human Jesus is physically gone, but the Christ idea, God’s man, is forever. I kind of like to think that Jesus merged with the divine idea, his spiritual identity, the unseen Christ, when he ascended.

Think of God as the sun and all the rays as different expressions of the divine Idea (Christ). When we personify the Christ, we are one of those rays of light.

Matt. 5:14-16 In the sermon on the mount, Jesus said, “Ye are the light of the world.  A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” That light is the Christ shining through.

Go out in the world and let your light shine for all to see.

Much Love, Michele
