I was concerned that if I talk too much about God, I might lose some of my followers. But as I think about it, people are following me because they want to know how I recovered from the effects of child abuse, and that recovery was because of God. If I don’t tell that story then I am not being true to myself and won’t be doing what God wanted me to do, share him with others. I found him, and he gave me this ability to get out to people and tell them about God in a way that they might understand. I had more visitors in one day to my blog on Steadfast Thought than on most of my other blogs, so I surmised that maybe talking about God won’t scare people off.
I don’t believe in blind faith. I believe we need to believe in something that is substantial, something that we can grab onto, that we can depend on. Blind faith does not give you that. It’s an “I hope” not an “I know.” If you haven’t read my blog on Substance, now would be a good time to do that. It explains what I mean by Substance, I’m not talking about things.
I mentioned in my blog about Steadfast Thought the analogy of God and the ocean, and God and the sun, this is one of the best ways that I learned about God and my relationship to him, and that’s what I needed to understand, what my relationship is to God, it is personal. I found I didn’t need an intermediary, someone to go to him for me, I had a direct line to God, that is the only way I could find Salvation. What is between me and God is personal.
There is something else that lots of people talk about, Angels. What I learned about Angels in my study of religion cleared that whole thing up for me. The following is a definition of angels from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, by Mary Baker Eddy. Page 581:4.
“ANGELS. God’s thoughts passing to Man: spiritual intuitions, pure and perfect; the inspiration of goodness, purity, and immortality, counteracting all evil, sensuality, and mortality.”
Man is a generic term meaning all mankind. Not men. 😊 Man, in this context means all God’s creation.
And from Miscellaneous Writings 1883-1896 by Mary Baker Eddy.
ANGELS
“When angels visit us, we do not hear the rustle of wings, nor feel the feathery touch of the breast of a dove; but we know their presence by the love they create in our hearts. Oh, may you feel this touch,- it is not the clasping of hands, nor a loved person present; it is more than this: it is a spiritual idea that lights your path! The Psalmist saith: “He shall give His angels charge over thee.” God gives you His spiritual ideas, and in turn, they give you daily supplies. Never ask for tomorrow: it is enough that divine Love is an ever-present help; and if you wait, never doubting, you will have all you need every moment. What a glorious inheritance is given to us through the understanding of omnipresent Love! More we cannot ask: more we do not want: more we cannot have. This sweet assurance is the “Peace, be still” to all human fears, to suffering of every sort.”
Now that being said, I thought about angels, the picture we get in movies about heavenly angels with wings or without, coming to us in times of need and helping us. I realized that is what Mrs. Eddy said in the quotes above. She had taken the human image out of it and left the essence. I learned they were thought messages. They came to me directly in my own thinking to give me strength and direction. The “still small voice.” That movie angel and all the little statues they sell are only symbols. I knew then that Angels were the way God communicated with me.
God can be proved through induction. If I do something 100 times and 99% of the time, I get the same results, I would say that process can be trusted. I can apply this to the Angle messages, if I listen 100 times and get good results 99% of the time then I would say I can trust God. That is not blind trust it is a trust based on results. The 1% of the time that it does not work I would not blame on God. I am not perfect, I am just learning and sometimes don’t get it right, but God is perfect and never missed if I did it right. It’s all up to me.
Here is a quote from the Bible that always made me feel safe.
“Whither shall I go from thy spirit? Or whither shall I flee from thy presence? If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in Hell, Behold, thou art there. If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.”
God is always there waiting for me to invite him in. All I had to do was open the door, and He would be there. I had to learn to think and pray right, that is what opens the door. I learned not to ask God for things but ask for guidance and direction, and to help me see what I need to do next. He would not do things for me but would give me the tools needed to do what I needed to do to make my life better.
If you are wondering about God but not sure, try listening to your own inner voice, he is there. Learn to tell the difference between him and your own self-will. Self-will is our enemy. Here are some words from the thesaurus that define self-will: obstinacy, stubbornness, willfulness, inflexibility, pigheadedness, weakness. I learned if my thoughts fit any of these definitions then I was not listening to God.
Listen to God he will never lead you down the wrong path. I trusted him, and he changed my life. I am happy, and I know Love.
